A shocking incident from Faridkot has stirred outrage, raising serious concerns about child safety and humanity. In Dogar Basti, a woman Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly subjected her 5-year-old granddaughter to inhumane treatment.

The accused, identified as Sarbjit Kaur, is posted as a “Mahila Mitra” at Sadar Police Station. On Tuesday, she reportedly tied the child’s hands and legs and left her bound to the main gate of the house under the scorching sun for several hours. The child was seen struggling in distress, but no mercy was shown.

The victim’s parents are currently living in Portugal, and the girl was under her grandmother’s care.

The matter came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media, triggering immediate action within the police department. Taking serious note, SSP Faridkot Dr. Pragya Jain suspended the accused ASI with immediate effect.

According to local residents, they rushed to the house after learning about the incident and knocked on the door, but received no response. Some even tried to rescue the child, but the woman came out and took the girl back inside.

In her defense, Sarbjit Kaur claimed that her husband is suffering from a brain stroke, leaving her mentally stressed. She said the child often wanders outside to play and, due to the presence of many migrant residents nearby, she acted in an attempt to scare the child. She admitted that she now realizes her mistake.

DSP Tarlochan Singh confirmed that an investigation is underway. He stated that such behavior will not be tolerated and further action will be taken based on the report of the Child Welfare Committee.
