A 29-year old man, who ran a readymade clothing business in Dharamkot town of Moga district, was shot dead on the Jalandhar Highway near a service station. The victim had gone to get his Scorpio N vehicle serviced when the incident took place. He was shot in the head.

The incident came to light when the victim’s younger brother traced his mobile phone location and sent staff from their shop to the spot for verification. Upon reaching the service station area, they found Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gery, lying dead inside his Scorpio vehicle.

Gurpreet Singh, son of Kulwant Singh and a resident of Dharamkot, ran a readymade garments store under the name “Gery Collection” in the town. On Wednesday, he had left home saying he was going to the service station to get his vehicle serviced.

When he did not return for a long time, his family tried calling him, but he did not answer. Later, they tracked his phone location, which showed the Pandori Road area on the Jalandhar Highway. His brother then sent shop workers to the location, where the victim was found dead.

The family rushed him to a private hospital in Moga, from where he was referred to the civil hospital. Doctors there declared him dead.

Police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the body for postmortem at the civil hospital morgue.

According to reports, Gurpreet Singh had previously received threat calls, after which police had provided him with security. However, no security personnel were present at the time of the incident.
