In Firozpur Jhirka town of Nuh district, two laborers lost their lives late Tuesday night after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a sewer. Another worker was seriously injured and has been admitted to the hospital. Station House Officer Kuldeep confirmed the incident.
According to reports, three sanitation workers had entered the sewer line for cleaning. Within minutes, their condition worsened due to the presence of poisonous gas inside the sewer. Unable to come out because of suffocation, two workers died on the spot. When there was no movement from inside for a long time, people present at the site initiated a rescue operation.
A third worker was also sent down but soon began to feel unwell. He was immediately pulled out and admitted to Al-Afia Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
One of the deceased workers was reportedly a resident of Palwal district, while the other belonged to Uttar Pradesh. Both bodies have been kept in the mortuary of Al-Afia Hospital, Mandikhera, for post-mortem.
It is being reported that the contractor supervising the work fled the spot after the incident, leading to public anger. Police have reached the site, launched an investigation, and assured strict action against those responsible.
