Bhartiya Rashtrawadi Party leader Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu held a press conference in Chandigarh on wednesday stating that if her party comes to power in Punjab, it would allow opium cultivation in the state. She said that each farmer would be permitted to grow opium on a per-acre basis.
She claimed that this form of cultivation could help farmers earn up to four times more income, and added that the party plans to implement the “Madhya Pradesh model” in Punjab as well.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu further said that Punjab currently lacks sufficient trees for producing Ayurvedic medicines. She also raised concerns over the financial condition of farmers, stating that despite their hard work, their children are increasingly migrating abroad in search of livelihood.
