The weather in Punjab and Chandigarh has taken a sudden turn, with residents experiencing a February-like chill even in April. Intermittent rainfall since Tuesday has led to a sharp drop of 5.1°C in the maximum temperature.

As a result, temperatures are now 8.7°C below normal, causing an unusual cold spell across the region. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for today (April 8), warning of rain, hailstorms, and strong winds. However, weather conditions are expected to clear from April 9, with a stable forecast for the following week.

According to the department, rainfall alerts have been issued for all 22 districts of the state. Among them, five districts Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and Mohali are likely to experience thunderstorms and hailstorms.

Meanwhile, districts including Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Moga, Bathinda, and Barnala are expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 30–40 km/h.
