A fresh incident of violence has shaken Manipur. A bomb attack allegedly carried out by suspected Kuki militants in the Moirang Tronglaobi area of Bishnupur district claimed the lives of two young children, while their mother was left seriously injured.

The incident occurred around 1 AM (7 April) when a bomb landed directly on a civilian house. At the time, a five-year-old boy, a six-month-old infant, and their mother were asleep inside the room. The sudden explosion killed both children on the spot, while the mother sustained severe injuries.

In response, the Manipur government has ordered a temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts. The restriction has been imposed with immediate effect and will remain in place for three days. Officials stated that the move is precautionary to prevent the spread of rumors and misinformation.

The Moirang Tronglaobi area, located in the valley and close to the hill district of Churachandpur, has been a hotspot of tension. It witnessed repeated incidents of firing and unrest during the ethnic violence in 2023 and 2024.

BJP MLA Condemns Attack

Following the incident, local BJP MLA TH Shanti Singh strongly condemned the attack, calling it a brutal and inhuman act. He described it as no less than terrorism and said such incidents have no place in society. Expressing deep sorrow, he paid tribute to the deceased children and extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.
