Chandigarh Police have arrested a 43-year-old man, identified as Avtar Singh alias Tari, with 21.57 grams of heroin in the Sector-45 area of the city.
According to police, the accused is a resident of Dhurali village in Mohali and has a criminal history, with nine cases registered against him in Punjab, including eight under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The arrest was made by Sector-34 Police Station personnel during a routine patrol. Avtar Singh was intercepted near the parking area of Government Senior Secondary School in Sector 45. During a search, police recovered 21.57 grams of heroin from his possession.
Police officials said Avtar Singh has been facing legal action since 2019 and is also involved in a theft case. Following his arrest, he was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the narcotics and any possible links to a wider drug trafficking network.
